All About
Ylang Ylang Oil

The "flower of flowers" β€” calming a racing heart, supporting focus, and making Chanel No. 5 legendary since 1921.

"Ylang ylang is one of the few essential oils that can simultaneously lift your mood, slow your heart rate, and make a room smell like a five-star spa. It's the Swiss Army knife of the floral world."

In Essence

The Flower of Flowers

Cananga odorata β€” ylang ylang β€” is native to the Philippines, Indonesia, and the Polynesian islands. Its name literally means "flower of flowers" in Tagalog, and the blooms have been used for centuries in traditional medicine, romance rituals, and hair care.

The essential oil is produced through fractional steam distillation β€” a marathon process that can last up to 20 hours, producing distinct grades at different intervals. Each grade has a different chemical profile, aromatic character, and ideal application. Let's meet them.

✨ Fun Fact

Ylang ylang is one of the key ingredients in Chanel No. 5 β€” created in 1921 and still the world's best-selling perfume over 100 years later. Every bottle contains a trace of this extraordinary tropical bloom.

The Distillation Story

The Three Grades

Unlike most essential oils distilled in one pass, ylang ylang flowers are distilled continuously for up to 20 hours β€” and the oil is collected in fractions at different times. Each fraction is a different grade with a unique character.

First Fraction Β· Hours 1–2

Ylang Ylang Extra

Most Prized Β· Perfumery Grade

The crème de la crème — collected in the first hour or two, highest in benzyl acetate and linalool, intensely sweet and heady. The perfumer's choice, the version in Chanel No. 5. Best for: luxury perfumery, romance blends, mood elevation, luxury skin serums.

Second Fraction Β· Hours 2–3

Ylang Ylang Grade I

Aromatherapy Gold Standard

Softer and warmer than Extra, with a beautifully balanced chemical profile that makes it the preferred therapeutic grade. Most commonly used in clinical aromatherapy for blood pressure support, anxiety, and mood balancing. Best for: therapeutic diffusion, blood pressure & heart support, roll-ons, massage oils.

Full Distillation Β· All Fractions

Ylang Ylang Complete

Most Balanced Β· Whole Oil

The full-spectrum oil β€” all fractions together, offering the complete aromatic and therapeutic character of the flower. Higher in the heavier sesquiterpene molecules. Best for: hair growth & scalp treatments, holistic body care, complex therapeutic blends, whole-plant aromatherapy.

Wellness Spotlight

Blood Pressure, ADHD & Autism Support

πŸ«€

High Blood Pressure

Research shows ylang ylang inhalation significantly lowers systolic & diastolic blood pressure and slows elevated heart rate β€” sometimes within 5 minutes. It activates the parasympathetic nervous system.

🧠

ADHD Support

By calming nervous system over-arousal and supporting sleep quality, ylang ylang can help create conditions for better focus. Often blended with vetiver, cedarwood & lavender in focus roll-ons.

🌸

Autism Support

Used in calming "anchor blends" for sensory regulation and transition support. Introduce slowly & observe response. Best diluted with lavender, bergamot & cedarwood.

⚠ Important: Because ylang ylang lowers blood pressure, use with caution alongside blood pressure medication. For ADHD and autism support, these are complementary tools β€” not replacements for professional care. Always introduce new scents slowly and observe individual response.
